My name is Jainny (rhymes with shiny!), and I'm based in Western North Carolina. I can't stop overthinking about the cult of the 40-hour work week! I just want to read books and watch YouTube videos while curled up on my couch with my dog, a lit candle, and a warm drink. Instead, I work in education! I'm super excited to start receiving this newsletter!

Hi!! I am Meghan and I am based in Michigan. I currently cannot stop thinking about how it’s seems as if society is increasingly able to only view the world in black and white perspectives.

Hi hi hi! Stoked about this newsletter. I'm Thressa in Minneapolis, MN and I stay busy overthinking anything that comes my way, currently including: how common miscarriages are vs. how little we talk about them, how our childhood ideas about food follow us forever until/unless we confront them, and what happens to community when a community space is removed.

Hi my name is Sumi and I’m based in NYC. I’m actually with Jainny here on how I can’t stop overthinking about how I never want to go to work and just stay on my couch all day! I wish the thought would pass but week after week I think, will I ever get over this feeling that I just never want to go or am I gonna be complaining about this feeling for the rest of my life?! Anyways, happy to have found my fellow over thinkers here 🤘👽 Excited to start receiving my weekly newsletter in my inbox, I always love everything Amanda recommends! 🥰

Hi, Ali from fascist Florida (an entire political peninsula of cultish activity led by Governor DeSantis)! Until I can escape this hot mess, I’m thrilled to find stimulating solace here. I’m a Cultie #swiftie and am writing about this right now. Excited for your magic! 🔮🪩🌈🧠🐈💫

Hiiiiiiii! I am Colleen. I am based in Queens, New York. I found Amanda Montpellier through “Sounds Like a Cult” and so many other cult media that I have gotten sucked into. In fact, that is what I can’t stop overthinking about! I try to get my hands on any and all documentaries not for any voyeuristic reason but rather I am so fascinated by the psychology of cults and how we are all susceptible to them. If anyone has any recommendations for books/podcasts/movies would love it! (Just finished Wild Wild Country and Keep Sweet Pray and Obey on Netflix, Heaven’s Gate on Max, I told you I am overthinking them right now 😂)

Hi hi! I'm Michelle from North Alabama (don't judge me too harshly please). I'm overthinking about the cult of domesticity, the popularity of women's groups (the DAR, Junior League, Garden Clubs, The Women's Auxiliary) in post WWII USA and their current sharp declines in membership, and the rise of cults like Moms 4 Liberty or even QAnon or MLMs or Peloton. Like, those women's groups gave women a lot of agency and clout in their communities in previous decades in a time when women's roles socially in the south were pretty restricted. But younger generations aren't joining them like older generations did. So now we have a void and that void is being filled by Moms 4 Liberty. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing good about M4L, so I'm not saying that M4L is a net-positive civic organization. But it looks to me like when those women's groups became old fashioned and uncool, there was nothing there to fill that void and give women in spaces without a lot of agency a way to participate in civic life in "acceptable" ways.

I am reading this currently, after hearing you on Radio New Zealand on an interview. Bought the book, loving the read and the self reflection on my own biases.

A fan, and cool to be connected here.
