Finding spirituality in science
A reading and teaser line from The Age of Magical Overthinking
Feeling heart-on-my-sleeve-ish today as I share another video reading from one of the books that nestled into my brain as I was writing The Age of Magical Overthinking. It’s from For Small Creatures Such As We, a lovely, genre-bendy work of nonfiction by Sasha Sagan, daughter of the famed astronomer Carl Sagan and science communicator Ann Druyan. The book is about finding secular means of wonder and ritual in a world that mostly turns to religion for those things. As the daughter of scientists, I relate so deeply to Sasha’s point of view, and I adore her intimate writing style. Sasha is also the Merriam-Webster’s definition of lovely; I first got to meet her because she’d read and connected with Cultish, reached out, sent me her book, which I clearly loved, and we’ve since become friendly. She also has a wonderful podcast called Strange Customs, where I was honored to appear as a guest earlier this year!
Anyway, for a further glimpse into where my mind was while writing certain parts of The Age of Magical Overthinking, tune into my little reading from Sasha’s book below. I’ve also included a teaser line from my new book, which I think pairs well with this excerpt from For Small Creatures Such As We!
