Dear readers, followers, and culties,
I am giddy to share that the Cultish paperback is finally published! The new version of the cover is so special, and I’m incredibly excited about my two IRL book tour events in LA and NYC on June 9th and 13th.
My goodness, how to describe the life this book has taken on since its publication in June 2021. It has been a whirlwind—truly an unfathomable surprise to see how the book’s subject matter has been embraced. I never expected Cultish to have such a long tail; in fact, the reason it’s taken so long for the paperback to come out is because readers have continued picking up the hardback four years post-pub, which is surreal! I immensely appreciate everyone who has engaged with the text and offered me their reactions and input, which I value deeply. The dialogues this book has facilitated have been humbling to witness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has dipped their toe into the cult of Cultish since 2021.
When my publisher let me know the book would finally be coming out in paperback this summer, I got the chance to make any necessary updates or changes to the text. I wanted to ensure that I stand by absolutely everything in it, down to the punctuation mark, taking into consideration the many conversations I’ve had with readers and experts over the years and keeping those perspectives in mind when contemplating moments in the book that I know resonated with some folks, but may have caused confusion for others. As a more knowledgeable writer with a third nonfiction book and oodles more authorly experience under my belt, I was eager to evaluate how the opinion-based commentary in the book, as well its cheeky style, would land today. In addition to re-examining the text myself, I worked with several wonderful editorial professionals, who combed through the manuscript as well to ensure no stone was left unturned. I so valued the opportunity to re-engage with the material and am extremely proud of the paperback edition.
Once again, I want to convey my profound gratitude for the readers who’ve given this book life over the years. I care deeply about putting books into the world that are not only fun and accessible but also thought-provoking and honor the subject matter and sources. I have loved writing nonfiction for the same reason I’ve always loved reading it—because my favorite thing in the world is to learn and share in a heart-rending, hopefully entertaining way. I cherish the privilege of being an author more than words can express.
Because I never got to tour Cultish in person due to COVID lockdown, I look forward to seeing many of you at my upcoming paperback celebrations, which I can guarantee will be “culty” in the best possible way. Stay tuned for event details!
xoxo,
Amanda
